WARSAW, Ind. (November 5, 2024) – The Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation (KEDCO) recently gathered local elected officials and community leaders from across the county for a Community Conversation focused on collaborative economic development efforts.
KEDCO hosted the event at The Barn 1880 in Warsaw. The event kicked off with a community dinner, bringing leaders together for connection and camaraderie, followed by a half-day workshop. Representatives attended from nearly every town, along with the City of Warsaw and Kosciusko County.
“This was a wonderful opportunity to unite leaders from across the county for idea sharing, learning, and building connections,” said KEDCO CEO Peggy Friday. “Economic development has many facets and partners involved, so events like this are key for us to learn from one another and remain focused on our goals.”
KEDCO hosted a strategic planning session with its board of directors earlier this fall, and the Community Conversation was a next step in gathering insight.
The facilitator-led workshop provided an overview of economic development, covering the roles of KEDCO, its board of directors, and local elected officials. It also included discussion centered on each community’s goals or “wants” as well as what each community does not want.
“As KEDCO evolves, it’s essential that we keep listening closely. We need to hear the needs of all our communities across the county, along with those of business owners and partner organizations, to address current priorities while planning for our community’s future,” said KEDCO Board Chairman Blaine Conley.
KEDCO will continue working in tandem with Amy Roe, Community Coordinator with the Hoosier Enduring Legacy Program (HELP) Kosciusko, a county initiative, to foster relationships with towns and communities.
A key theme shared throughout the discussion was the importance of collaboration and mutual support in economic development. Collaboration is key in going further, faster.
